Tengwar Press is operated by Steve Otlowski, a craftsman working in the letter arts: calligraphy and illumination. While he works in many styles and media, he specializes in the production of facsimile mediaeval manuscripts, or pieces in historical styles. His work includes pieces for a variety of important institutions including the Cleveland Museum of Art.

He has done considerable research on the techniques and materials used for manuscript illumination during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. This has qualified him to give presentations on manuscript illumination to groups through the education department of the Cleveland Museum of Art and The Cleveland College of Jewish Studies, as well as programs for teachers, schools and guilds.

Below are pictures of a variety of pieces produced by Steve Otlowski. You can click on these images for a larger version.

These are some pieces done for the Cleveland Museum of Art to demonstrate the process of manuscript illumination. They were displayed with a collection of the pigments and tools used by Mediaeval scribes and illuminators.
